It is always believed that entertainment has been a vital ingredient of the human knowledge ever since the initial stages of time. A lot of intellectuals are adamant that the entertainers and amusement serve as an integral source of research. There has been a lot of historical research on how the entertainers have played the role of a teacher satisfactorily attracting the masses. These entertainers have their origin in the middle ages and have thereafter served as great educators in the history of mankind. The earliest forms of unwritten communication were to pass on the messages by the word of mouth. It is often believed that religious disciplines were the first informative messages passed from person to person by the means of entertainment. The scriptures provide evidence that around the third century before Christ, the Buddhist monks tried to convert people by using the entertaining modes of music and theatre. The descriptions about the Hindu, Islamic and Buddhist deities were taught in the theatrical epics and that commenced the setting of precise rules for theatre. On a similar side, the Irish monks initiated the use of music schools for teaching uniform use of music and brought it to the Church. Though the chants taught the same thing, the rhythm varied. When it comes to Christianity, hymns and psalms were sung in the apostolic times to spread the word about the religion. In those times, churches were the only source to learning and therefore monks used music to propagate their teachings.

The former entertainers used the theatre as a place to narrate stories of all kinds from reality to fiction. The African continent had a rich oral tradition of telling folk tales, puzzles and proverbs from those who were taking care of the religious, cultural and the financial operation. The Asian entertainers came up with a unique approach of covering their faces with some kind of masks that saved themselves from revealing their identity while exposing the scandals and the rumors of the day. The Europeans found another way to keep themselves in the hide and then began the era of puppets. Various puppet plays were widely accepted across the world to convey meaningful messages. The Greeks believed more in expression and thus they used the theatre as the main instrument in educating the masses about the day to day happenings. The Chinese believed in telling fables as a part of entertaining themselves and then the great era of Chinese folk tales began about three thousand years ago.

Entertainment provided a diverse platform as far as verbal communication is concerned. Almost all the theoretical information is passed through musical songs and poetries. The ancient poets used the rhymes in their works so that its memorization is simplified and can be easily remembered by the generations to come. These forms of entertainment were then transferred on to paper and then it took the important form of literature. Around 500 BC saw the development of the Greek plays on to paper and it all depicts the crisis in all forms – intellectual, cultural and political.

But as times went by, there came a tremendous shortage of teachers and then those wanted to seek education, had to find alternatives. All those who were traveling played an instrumental role in distributing ideas, songs and all that could possibly help in furthering the knowledge. Then came another breed of entertainers, called the troubadours and their job was to successfully comprehend the verses with music. In typical songs called sirventes, these entertainers gave a complete account of the current affairs and scandalized events. Many of these songs are referred to the Crusaders that date back into the fourteenth century. Most of these Crusade songs gave a description about the rally against those Arabs that resided in Spain. The Troubadours were known as patriots as their songs are used to have the theme about the courtly love and they usually integrated concerns about the current affairs.

The modern entertainers that belonged to the era after the twelfth century propagated the message of religion and chivalry to the people. The troubadours were considered people wandering aimlessly in the woods singing songs about nothing other than courtly love. They were the educators in every sense but very rarely accepted. After the troubadours disappeared around the fourteenth century, came another sect of entertainers and those were called the Meistersingers. The average Meistersingers believed in a more structured form of entertainment with education and they formed middle sized schools to send across their message to the world. A lot of the modern universities still contain a plentitude of these poems and are referred today as an important literary form. These entertainers had a belief that anything that is a form of entertainment could be used as a disguise to long lasting education.

Entertainers all the way through times gone by have unquestionably served up as educators to the community, besides their conservative roles as merely musicians or poets. At the same time as a small amount of entertainers wanted to amuse with their acts only, the majority of performers have formulated their skill with a deeper principle in intellect. Nearly each and every of those who chose to address the problems of the society by the means of there art is equally worthy as a contemporary educator today. For the reason that a lot of the works of these huge artists were documented on manuscript or passed down from one generation to another through verbal narration, the understanding feelings of these performers keep on educating the masses in the new millennium as well.
